Heated Rivalry: The New Gay Phenomenon That Excites Women

December 20, 2025

While the HBO Max streaming platform hasn’t even announced its release date in France yet, the new Canadian gay series Heated Rivalry floods our social networks with steamy videos and GIFs.

Unless your homosexuality has escaped the algorithms, it’s impossible that your Twitter or TikTok feed hasn’t already shown you images of Heated Rivalry. Behind this “hot rivalry,” a new gay and sexy series from Canada. At the center of the clips that have flooded social media in recent weeks are two scantily clad hunks overlapping playfully in a dimly lit atmosphere… But no, it’s not porn!

The six-episode premise, broadcast in its home country on Crave (Canada’s Netflix), is stitched with a cliché: Shane Hollander is the young hockey star of the Montreal team; Ilya Rozanov, for his part, has left his native Russia to play for the rival Boston team. From their first exchanged looks on the ice, a connection forms between the two athletes in the locker room…

Created by Jacob Tierney (who had co-written My Life with John F. Donovan with Xavier Dolan), Heated Rivalry is adapted from a series of novels titled Game Changers (not translated in France), each volume focusing on a gay couple in which at least one of the two is a hockey player. A political stance since, like football in France, this national sport in Canada suffers greatly from gay representation: no active NHL player is out. “These books were born out of my anger at the hockey culture that has been and continues to be clearly homophobic, to the point where I was ashamed to be a fan of this sport,” claims their author, Rachel Reid, in an article in the Washington Post.

The Success of soft porn Gay

If homophobia in sport is indeed one of the series’ themes, what stands out most about Heated Rivalry is its soft-porn aesthetic in the style of Elite. Although Heated Rivalry never relies on frontal nudity, it generously exposes the sculpted bodies of its lead actors, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, and also works to heighten the sexual tension through numerous glances and sexting exchanges.

A gallery of steamy moments that has not failed to arouse a gay audience, as well as many heterosexual women. An opportunity for mainstream media to rediscover that these women are fond of gay romances, just as they consume gay porn, yaoi, and Tom of Finland.

In light of the buzz generated by the release of the first episodes, Crave wasted no time ordering a second season of Heated Rivalry. De quoi occuper nos soirées, alors que Heartstopper touche à sa fin et que Netflix a décidé de ne pas donner de suite à Boots. Hâte de la regarder sous le plaid avec les copines !
